I create highly detailed animal portraits from my studio in Dartmoor National Park.

 

My creative journey began about five years ago. I first worked in watercolour, but the need to capture the grace and elegance of my three whippets called for a medium with finer control. This search led me to coloured pencils.

 

I specialise in photorealism and am known for meticulous detail. I works on two very different surfaces:

 

Grafix Drafting film

Used for maximum sharpness and clean lines. It allows intense colour layering and precise detail.

 

Clairfontaine Pastelmat

Chosen when I want a softer and more textural finish.

 

My work focuses on bringing out the character of each animal, especially the individuality in their eyes and the subtle variations in fur texture.

 

A highlight of my recent work was supporting the breeding programme for the critically endangered Amur leopard at Sparkwell Zoo. After hearing about their conservation work, I created an Amur leopard portrait that was auctioned at their Charity Ball to raise essential funds for the project.
